What Do Naperville Senior Center Members Eat For Lunch?

By Mike Cooper

Were you going to say ‘a ham sandwich and chips?’ Don’t confuse a PB&J at a day care center with what our Members eat during the day. We take nutrition very seriously at Naperville Senior Center. Our Members are fed healthy, nutritious food that tastes great!

As we age, our nutrition needs change. Can you still eat like you did when you were 20 (and not feel it the next day)? Probably not. It’s okay to have your favorite ‘cheat’ food once-in-a-while (everything in moderation, right?), but that doesn’t work every day of the week.

Coconut Crusted Tilapia

DSC_0197A healthy diet that is nutrient-rich can help seniors defend against certain health problems like heart problems, diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol by keeping them at a healthy weight and improving their energy level.

We couldn’t agree more!  Below is a sample of what our Members eat for lunch every day:

  • Coconut-crusted tilapia with mashed potatoes, mixed vegetables, salad from our garden and a small dessert
  • Chicken parmesan with pasta, mixed vegetables, salad from our garden and a small dessert
  • Salisbury steak with mashed potatoes, vegetables, salad from our garden and a dessert
  • Pot roast with rice pilaf, vegetables, salad from our garden and a small dessert

DSC_0388Our Members can take as much, or as little, as they want depending on their appetite and other dietary considerations. But we keep our Members active during the day, so they are increasing their metabolism and can burn off the food they eat at lunch. When they go home, they shouldn’t be famished, which gives their caregiver time to get dinner ready without having their loved one feel starved.

Sometimes when Pam and I get home, we don’t even need dinner because of the great feast we had at lunch. Our son will eventually pop out of his room to see what’s for dinner… you’re on your own, kid!

We would like to have your loved one see our facility and have lunch with us! Contact us to get schedule a FREE 3-hour trial at our facility so you can see what we have to offer and understand the Naperville Senior Center experience, Home Away From Home.
