Saying Thank You: A Win-Win
Saying Thank You: A Win-Win
Thank you. These are two simple words, but they can make a huge impact for someone. Huge! Many people take these words for granted. It seems like we thank people for things out of habit. When you sneeze, someone says, “God bless you,” and you say, “Thank you.” A server brings you more coffee, you say, “Thank you.” You may not even realize you’re saying it or what impact it has; you just do it. That’s okay! It is the courteous thing to do. You shouldn’t have to think about whether you should say ‘thank you’ to someone. It is a very good habit. When in doubt, say it! “Thank you!”
But have you thought about what those words really can do for someone else, or how they might affect you?
Here is what we found:
- Saying thank you can increase enthusiasm – it’s hard to be in a bad mood when you are being thanked for doing something.
- Saying thank you can make someone smile – who doesn’t like to be thanked for something? It is a small way of letting someone know you care, which should put a smile on their face! “It was another great day; thank you for all your efforts today!”
- Saying thank you can increase your team’s productivity – if your team is enthusiastic, they will feel better about what they are doing. A side effect is increased positivity and it will show up in their results. Ergo, a win-win! “Thank you for another great idea!”
- Saying thank you will make you feel good – finally, you are spreading a little happiness to someone else. That’s a good feeling, both for you and the person you are thanking.

Don’t underestimate the power of saying thank you; it might make a world of difference to someone.
Every day we are thankful that we have created a fun, affordable and safe environment for our Members where they can feel like this is their home away from home. We want them to be as comfortable here as they are in their own home. In addition, we love to see our Members socializing, verbalizing, improvising, evangelizing, visualizing, exercising, having fun, and a host of other activities to provide mental and physical stimulation. Most of all, we get to thank them.

wer, we have a hair care station so members can feel good about their personal grooming. We also have a washer and dryer to quickly deal with unexpected spills. This not only helps your loved one feel better about him/herself, but it helps the caregiver as well.
With National Letter Writing Week coming to a close, why not pick up a pen and communicate with someone you know who you don’t keep in contact with online by writing them a letter. “Dear grandma, hope to hear you are doing well. Here are how things are going with me…” Your grandma might love getting a note like that in the mail!
Call them. In addition to writing to your loved ones, pick up the phone and call them. Yes, put the phone to your ear (or put your ear bud in your ear) and actually call someone. Giving them a chance to talk to someone (especially if they are home alone) is a great way to help them break up their day. And then you can share in more detail the things that are going on in your life. You don’t have to make it a long conversation (“grandma, I have a few minutes and just wanted to call to say ‘hi’) but they will appreciate the effort.
In 2015 there were 47.8 million senior citizens (65 and above) living in the United States.
Help with cutting the grass, landscaping or shoveling snow. Is there a senior neighbor on your block that uses an old push mower? Or does their grass always seem to be high? Why not take your mower down there and cut it for them. Do the landscape beds need to be weeded or bushes trimmed? Lend a hand and do it for them. When you see snow pile up on their stoop, walkway or driveway, shovel it for them. Ask a neighbor or two to join you and get the job done even faster. It’s only an hour or two out of your day and your senior neighbor will be very grateful.
, raise kids or do something to make the community a better place? Why not say ‘thank you’ to them, just to make them feel like they are still appreciated. Bring a pretty bunch of flowers to brighten their day. Or make a hot meal for them. ‘Thank you’ is so easy to say and it costs very little. Try it out, you might just feel good too!
